Abstract
A comparative study on the effectiveness of the internal standard method (ISM) and standard addition method (SAM) as applied to the ICP-MS determination of arsenic in tipping paper for cigarettes was made. As shown by the experimental results, values of detection limits of 11.10 ng·L-1,14.70 ng·L-1; of RSD′s (n=6) of 3.4%,3.2%; and of recovery ranged from 94.3%-104%,91.4%-98.2% were found for ISM and SAM respectively. As tested by the matching T-test,no significant difference of analytical results was shown by the two methods. It was concluded that the ISM was better to be applied to samples of tipping paper with simple additive composition, while the SAM was more favorable to be used for samples with complex additive composition, especially those added with mixture of TiO2 and mica, for matching the matrix.
